About us

Supermechanical is humans making augmented tools for humans. We believe in a future for electronics that let you worry less and do more, with the privacy, ownership, and authorship that Web 1.0 granted us. We love the empowerment of technology and do work we care about.

Founded in 2011, Supermechanical grew out of designer/software developer John Kestner's graduate work at the MIT Media Lab, where he explored ways to incorporate connectivity into the physical interfaces of everyday objects. We're designer-engineers who have appeared in all your favorite media, from the Wall Street Journal and Metropolis to Wired and Better Homes & Gardens.

Consulting
