The state government has finally given its nod for setting up an international airport at Chakan.
PUNE: The state government has finally given its nod for setting up an international airport at Chakan.
The state cabinet, which met late on Wednesday evening in Mumbai, approved a seed capital of Rs 200 crore for the airport.
Sources told TOI that Pune���s guardian minister Ajit Pawar had stressed for clearing the proposal before the election code of conduct comes into force.
Chief minister Ashok Chavan upheld the demand while ascertaining that the project should be executed through a public private partnership (PPP) model, and the state will provide the capital for the same. The Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation (MADC) will execute the project.
The MCCIA and top IT companies have been pressing for a new international airport in Pune.
