I believe the section on Pune Metro needs to be constantly updated to reflect progress of construction and opening of new services. Any help from fellow editors would be most welcome.Thanks. Jonathansammy (talk) 16:45, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

first paragraph in Etymology section mentions 10th century as the earliest reference to the city.
second paragraph lists two dates from 8th century for an already established city. which of these is the correct earliest reference for the city? 188.167.97.197 (talk) 22:22, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It would be good to have map(s) showing the expansion of the city boundries through history, and especially during the last 150 years. Most probably there isn't something like that on Wikimedia, and so it will have to be created by editor(s) experienced in generating maps. An IP editor recently tried to alter the text of the lead to show that the area was 527 km2 (203 sq mi) instead of 516.18 km2 (199.30 sq mi), but he/she made errors when altering the citation template. I think that we ought to modify the body of the article to explain how the area of Pune has changed over time. Any explanation also needs to state the definition used (for example whether they mean Pune Municipal Corporation, or something else).
According to Indian Express, Pune has officially become the city with the largest geographical area in Maharashtra. The state govt on Wednesday issued an order for extending the boundaries of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to include 23 new villages in the existing city limits.Note, I do not see evidence that Priya Jaiswal was the author of this article.
With its new urban city limits, Pune has now become the seventh largest city in India, with the geographical area of 516.18 sq km (from 331 sq km).
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) now commands an area over 518 sq kms as against the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which is spread over 434 sq km. The Maharashtra government's Urban Development Department on Wednesday evening issued the notification including 23 adjoining villages – this increasing the limits from the existing 331 sq km to 518 sq km.
The geographical area of the Pune Municipal Corporation is around 527 square kilometers. According to the 2011 census, the population of the city of Pune is over 94,26,959 people. The continuous growth of the suburbs is the reason for the continuous population growth of the city, thus increasing the demand for infrastructure development.
If the URL to pmc.gov.in does not work for you, go to the top level of the site and work through the hierarchy - sorry this seems to be a feature of some website designs.-- Toddy1 (talk) 15:56, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
